Palma, July 01, 2025.- APSL Nagarro, a company specializing in advanced technological solutions, has been awarded the public tender for the update, improvement, and implementation of web developments for the Digital Ecosystem of the Balearic Islands Coastal Observing and Forecasting System (ICTS SOCIB). The main objective of the contract is to enhance the functionality, accessibility, and usability of SOCIB's digital ecosystem, consolidating its platforms as key tools for strategic users and institutions.
These updates are aimed at facilitating knowledge transfer, increasing the visibility of the scientific and technical resources offered by this Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructure (ICTS) in the marine field, and ensuring adaptation to regulatory frameworks for security, transparency, and open science. Furthermore, internally, these improvements will contribute to better knowledge management, operational monitoring, and communication for the SOCIB team.
This award not only represents a key milestone in its collaboration with the public sector but also solidifies its position as a benchmark technology partner for the scientific and technical community, adding to high-impact projects already developed for prestigious institutions such as Mercator Ocean International and the Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Physics and Complex Systems (IFISC UIB-CSIC).
Inma Ruiz, Project Manager at APSL Nagarro and Head of the project, explained that "this contract strengthens our presence in the scientific and technical sector and in the public sector in Spain. Technology can make knowledge and data more accessible and improve both the internal management of large volumes of data."
This project follows the line of work previously carried out for the scientific community. For Mercator Ocean International, APSL Nagarro developed key tools such as a platform to manage oceanographic metadata and an interactive application to analyze the impact of ocean observation systems.
For the execution of the project, APSL Nagarro will use an agile SCRUM methodology. The technical proposal is based on SOCIB's current technology stack, which includes Django, DjangoCMS, and Vue.js, and the use of Amazon Web Services (AWS) for hosting, of which Nagarro is a partner, ensuring security, scalability, and compliance with the National Security Framework.

About SOCIB
The Balearic Islands Coastal Observing and Forecasting System (SOCIB) is a Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructure (ICTS), created by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands, which the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) later joined. Headquartered in the Parc Bit in Palma, it has a multidisciplinary team of 50 people dedicated to improving the knowledge, understanding, and sustainable management of the global ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.
SOCIB operates an observation and forecasting system in the Western Mediterranean and provides open access to data, services, facilities, and digital solutions that support marine research and promote knowledge transfer. Within this framework, its digital ecosystem is an essential tool to facilitate the efficient and accessible use of these resources. Its vision is to establish itself as a reference infrastructure in the field of marine R&D&I and to contribute to the development of a digital twin of the Mediterranean that supports decision-making in a climate change scenario.
