Palma, December 2, 2024 – APSL, a company belonging to the digital engineering multinational Nagarro, has won the tender from the Barcelona City Council for the management, evolution, and maintenance of the cloud infrastructure for its citizen communication digital platforms. This contract, active since 2016, has been renewed for the 2024-2027 period through a new public bidding process.

This project strengthens APSL Nagarro's work with the Barcelona City Council after contributing to developments such as IRIS2 (an open-source solution for citizen services), SURI (a management system for the Barcelona Animal Shelter), and the WebPy contract (maintenance of informational websites and Python applications for resource management, including the electronic headquarters website).

Bartomeu Miró, Director of Systems, stated, “We are very pleased to continue evolving the platform. In previous contracts, we managed to streamline the infrastructure and optimize its costs, and this contract will allow us to consolidate that progress.”

This renewed contract includes provisioning infrastructure, governance, and maintaining the security of a broad network of digital platforms based on LAMP technology (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) hosted in the cloud, managed by the Communication Directorate of the Barcelona City Council. The structure comprises an ecosystem of 1,000 applications and informational websites, 400 operating in test environments. These portals focus on providing information and direct communication with citizens.

The LAMP team, part of APSL, plays a key role in managing these platforms, publishing a new informational website every three days and retiring those no longer needed due to their temporary nature. These websites provide citizens with valuable information about local events and services, such as public festivals, library hours, school enrollment, emergency services, and specialized resources for individuals over 65 years old, among others. This service reinforces APSL's public sector mission to leverage technology for the benefit of citizens.

The renewal of this contract represents an opportunity to continue innovating. While the 2019-2024 period focused on consolidating the existing architecture and evolving the cloud infrastructure, the new 2024-2027 service contract aims to transition toward an even more efficient architecture, optimizing the digital communication ecosystem of the City Council while ensuring its security and accessibility.
